46/200 Max Braden This is a decent adventure, but I found Mia Farrow annoying and the editing too fast.

When you think of animation, you think of Luc Besson, right? The man who directed such classics as The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita, and The Professional (and wrote The Transporter and Unleashed) is a natural for cuddly cartoon children's fare. Put all preconceived notions aside, because this is not a joke. Luc Besson has written and directed an animated film and it is even getting an early debut so that it will be sure to be under consideration for an Academy Award.

The story is centered around a young boy named Arthur who becomes determined to save his family from evil real estate developers after his grandfather disappears. He finds that he will have to unlock a series of clues from his grandfather that will eventually lead him to an awesome treasure - as well as a strange new world. This new realm is populated by strange little people who are so small that they are considered to be invisible. If Arthur can enlist their help, his chances of success become that much greater.

Things become complicated when Arthur learns that an evil wizard is out to take over the land of the invisibles. He'll team up with a tiny princess and a reckless, wild group of defenders to make things right.

Arthur and the Invisibles combines live action and CGI animation, and stars Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Mia Farrow, Madonna and David Bowie. It does promise to be one of the more unique entries into the animation awards race for 2006. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
