Robert Rodriguez is a daring risk taker. The noted director already pulled off the unexpected by filming parts of Sin City before he had secured the rights to the film. He has produced his Spy Kids franchise from the grounds of his own home, establishing a personal playground for his high-tech theatrical creations. Never one to rest on his laurels, Rodriguez is now poised to create a new franchise using the technologies he created for his last film, Spy Kids 3-D.

Shark Boy and Lava Girl is Robert Rodriguez’s attempt to actualize an animated superhero movie not unlike The Incredibles. To do this, he will take the animation sequences used in Spy Kids 3-D and use them to create an entire new world. The stars of this film are the titular heroes, Shark Boy and Lava Girl. The story begins when a boy's imaginary superhero friends come to life and join him for his adventures. While this seems like a wildly ambitious project for one man to take upon himself, we should expect no less from an auteur such as Rodriguez. (David Mumpower/BOP)
