We are totally boyfriend and girlfriend. I swear.

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
8/10 Amanda Jones Ridiculously bad, but somehow not entirely un-entertaining. Among the worst acting (and overacting. and underacting) I have ever seen.
52/52 Sean Collier What was this movie even about, again?
63/98 David Mumpower I love Samuel Jackson, but he's in this movie in name only. I've seen more effort from Manny Ramirez.
179/196 Max Braden It just...ends. There should have been a half hour left.

Digg Button
Doug Liman has a bit of a reputation in Hollywood. After finding indie cred with the production of Swingers and Go, Liman broke into the big time with The Bourne Identity, a little movie that made much, much more than anyone ever expected it to and also spawned two outstanding sequels (though directed by someone else). There were notable difficulties with that film, as Liman went through numerous battles with Universal before a satisfactory final product finally made its way to the big screen.

Liman next moved to television, where he directed the first two episodes of The O.C. His next helming effort was Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a movie that earned $186.3 million domestically for distributor 20th Century Fox. Apparently, they were pleased with Liman's work as they are working with him again on an intriguing project known as Jumper.

Jumper stars Hayden Christensen as David, a young man who discovered a strange ability to teleport anywhere during a near death experience. WHat he soon learns is that "jumpers", as people with this ability are called, have existed for centuries. They are able to do so thanks to a genetic anomoly and naturally, people with this gift use their teleportation abilities for personal gain, to escape enemies, or even to alter the course of history. There is also a danger in jumping. If a jumper is highly emotional at the time of a leap, they leave behind a dangerous rift known as a jumpscar that stays in the air for several seconds. People or things who come into contact with this jumpscar will be destroyed.

Because of the danger that exists from jumpers, there is a set of individuals dedicated to destroying them. Known as Paladins, these people are highly organized and exist to destroy the jumpers that they believe pose a potent danger to the planet. Jumper will tell the story of David's discoveries of his own abilities as well as his realization that he is being pursued by people who want him dead.

Along with Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson stars as a Paladin, and Rachel Bilson of The O.C. portrays the romantic interest for the lead character. Other featured performers include Jamie Bell and Diane Lane.

With the right marketing campaign, Jumper has a chance to really capture the attention of the coveted young male audience. With Liman at the helm, it promises to be an engaging, unusual flick. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
