Kurt Russell's career started with him being the young face of vanilla Disney humor. He segued into several lovable but dumb tough guy roles such as the ones in Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China. He is now at the age where he has moved on to paternal, wisened roles like the ones he played in Vanilla Sky and Miracle. That trend looks to continue in his latest project, Dreamer.

Dreamer tells the story of a horse trainer trying to find redemption for both himself and his horse. The steed, a formerly successful thoroughbred, has been effectively been put out to pasture. The trainer doesn't believe the stallion is done, though. In the process of their training, the man and his 11-year-old daughter come to better understand one another.

Though the film was originally planned as a father-son story, the producers eventually reworked the project so that it involved a little girl instead. Starring in that role is the unnaturally talented Dakota Fanning, who has received positive attention for a number of her roles, most particularly I Am Sam and the television mini-series Taken.
