UA nabs rights to Apprentice
United Artists bought the film rights to Ranger's Apprentice, a (so far) seven-book children's lit series from Australian author John Flanagan. Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby) is in talks to adapt and direct the first book in the series, The Ruins of Gorlan, which was released in the United States in 2005. Other books in the series include The Burning Bridge, The Icebound Land, Oakleaf Bearers, The Sorcerer in the North, The Siege of Macindaw and Erak's Ransom.
