Berg hops in Salt's director chair
Peter Berg (Collateral) is in negotiations to direct Columbia's Edwin A. Salt, a spy thriller already starring Tom Cruise. The story centers on Salt (Cruise), a CIA officer who is pegged as a Russian sleeper spy. His superiors believe he is out to assassinate the president, so he goes on the run. While also trying to reunite with his family, he attempts to prove that somebody else is actually the traitor.

Columbia Enamored of Spy Thriller
Columbia Pictures has obtained the rights to Edwin A. Salt, a spy-thriller from writer Kurt Wimmer (Ultraviolet; The Thomas Crown Affair). The story centers on Salt, a CIA officer who is pegged as a Russian sleeper spy. His superiors believe he is out to assassinate the president, so he goes on the run. While also trying to reunite with his family, he attempts to prove that somebody else is actually the traitor.
