Jeunet directs Life of Pi
Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement) has signed on to direct the adaptation of the Yann Martel novel Life of Pi. He'll co-write the screenplay as well, working with his Amelie partner Guillaume Laurent. The story centers on a 16-year-old boy and his voyage from India to Canada. Though the young man's family starts out on a freighter, it soon sinks. The boy is stuck on a lifeboat with a hyena, a wounded zebra and a hungry tiger (the ship was transporting animals from his father's zoo).

Cuaron gets Life of Pi
Fox 2000 Pictures is in advanced negotiations with Alfonso Cuaron to direct Life of Pi, an adaptation of the Booker Prize-winning novel from Yann Martel. He would replace M. Night Shyamalan, who the studio decided to part ways with after Night decided his next project would be Lady in the Water for Warner Bros. and started the casting process. Pi tells the existential story of a young man (nicknamed Pi) who is shipwrecked from his family and stuck on a makeshift raft with a tiger for an extended period of time.
