Alcon turns comedy into Martin Lawrence vehicle
Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to Back to Africa, the long-gestating project originally set up at Universal about five years ago. The feature will be drafted into a potential star vehicle for Martin Lawrence.

Universal goes Back to Africa
Universal Pictures has joined with Terra Firma films to make a preemptive purchase of Back to Africa, which is described in Variety as a sort of reverse Coming to America. The comedy was written by Don Yost and Joel Kauffmann. The story centers around a guy who discovers he's actually an African prince. When he goes to Africa to claim his kingdom, nothing is quite what he expected.
