Universal picks up Black Dahlia
Universal Pictures has acquired distribution rights to Black Dahlia, the long-in-the-works adaptation of James Ellroy's novel by the same name. The film stars Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Swank and Aaron Eckhart, and will be released in 2006. The movie is set in the late 1940s and follows a pair of boxers who switched careers to become cops. They are assigned the case of the murder of Elizabeth Short, a crime that rocked L.A. and is still unsolved even today. Brian DePalma directs.

Eckhart joins Black Dahlia
Aaron Eckhart will star in the movie adaptation of the James Ellroy novel The Black Dahlia. He and Josh Hartnett will star as two LAPD cops in the 1940s who investigate the real-life case of the murder of fledgling actress Elizabeth Short. Also cast are Scarlett Johansson and recent Academy Award winner Hilary Swank. Brian De Palma directs from a screenplay by Josh Friedman.

Swank signs up for Black Dahlia
Hilary Swank has signed on to play a femme fatale in Black Dahlia, a movie adaptation of the James Ellroy novel. Brian De Palma is directing her along with Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson. The story centers around two boxers who have become cops. The pair are investigating the murder of Elizabeth Short, a crime that has rocked 1940s Los Angeles. Swank's character is a dead ringer for the deceased woman and becomes known as the Black Dahlia and a dangerous seductress
to the cops.
