Bandit is the Smokey
Burt Reynolds has officially signed with Warner Bros. to star as Boss Hogg in the bigscreen re-imagining of the '80s television series The Dukes of Hazzard. Additionally, Willie Nelson will play Uncle Jesse.
Already signed on for the lead roles in the film are Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke and Seann William Scott as Bo Duke. Jessica Simpson will portray Daisy Duke. The film will be set in the modern day, but the Duke boys' 1969 Dodge Charger will stay the same.
Jay Chandrasekhar of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe is directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with the group. It's been noted on the Broken Lizard blog that some of the guys are looking to play various small roles in the film as well.

Simpson is Daisy Duke
After months of talks and speculation, Jessica Simpson has officially signed to play Daisy Duke, the pretty, short-shorts wearing cousin of Bo and Luke Duke in the Warner Bros. theatrical adaptation of the Dukes of Hazzard. Additionally, the studio has approved both the budget and the screenplay from Starsky & Hutch scribe John O'Brien.

Dukes are cast
The roles of Bo and Luke Duke have been cast, according to People Magazine. The hilarious Johnny Knoxville will portray Luke Duke (originally played by Tom Wopat in the television series) and Seann William Scott of the American Pie franchise is set to take the John Schneider role as Bo Duke. Other casting for The Dukes of Hazzard is not confirmed, but the magazine reports that they are leaning toward Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg and Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke. The television series originally ran from 1979 to 1985 and follows the adventures of the cousins Bo and Luke, who have a knack for getting in trouble with the law.
