More Terminators to come

The Halcyon Co. has purchased all rights to the Terminator franchise from Andy Vaina and Mario Kassar, who had been feuding over the future of the series. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will not return to star in future films. At this point, Terminator 4 is in the works, with a screenplay by T3 writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris already complete. The movie is currently planned as a summer 2009 release. Halcyon is hoping to reinvent Terminator as an all-new franchise that will pick up with John Connor as a man in his 30s, leading the last remnants of the human race against the machines.

Terminator 4 readies for production

After a year in development, Terminator 4 is set to begin production in early 2005. John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who also wrote the script for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, have completed the screenplay for the fourth film in the franchise. T3 director Jonathan Mostow supervised the writing of the script and is also believed to be headed back to the director's chair. Naturally, the question of whether California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to reprise the role he originated looms large. If time allowed, he would most likely appear in a very limited capacity. The expectation would be that T4 would introduce a new terminator model that could rise to the forefront. It's also uncertain whether Nick Stahl and Clare Danes will return, though the L.A. Times reported several months ago that Stahl was contracted for at least two films.
