Universal Eyes Director for Mamma Mia!
Phyllida Lloyd is in talks to direct the feature film adaptation of hit musical Mamma Mia! The Universal Pictures and Playstone project is based on the popular ABBA musical created by Judy Craymer and Catherine Johnson and has grossed more than $1 billion in productions around the world since first debuting in 1999. The story focuses on a Greek bride-to-be raised on an island by her mother who has never disclosed the identity of her father. The woman finds three men who might he her dad and invites each to the wedding. The musical includes 22 ABBA songs, including their hits Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me and The Winner Takes It All. Lloyd has also directed Mamma Mia! stage show in London and is well known in the theatrical world. Catherine Johnson, who wrote the show's book, also wrote the screenplay. Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson and executive producing, along with ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. No cast is known at this time.
