Cusack and O'Donnell join Kit Kittredge cast
Joan Cusack and Chris O'Donnell will star in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery alongside Abigail Breslin, Stanley Tucci, Glenne Headly, Jane Krakowski, Julia Ormond, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Wallace Shawn, Josette Halpert, Max Thieriot, Madison Davenport, Zach Mills and Willow Smith. The movie is an adaptation based around the American Line girl of dolls and storybooks that accompany them. It will feature Breslin as Kit Kittredge, a smart 10-year-old who is growing up during the Great Depression. Patricia Rozema will direct from a script by Ann Peacock.

Director set for American Girl
Patricia Rozema will direct Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery for Picturehouse and HBO Films. The live-action film is inspired by the line of dolls and their accessories, and will feature recent Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin in the featured role. Along with Breslin, the movie will also star Stanley Tucci, Glenne Headly and Jane Krakowski. Julia Ormond, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Wallace Shawn are in talks to join the cast as well. In the movie, Kit Kittredge (Breslin) is a nine-year-old girl who is growing up during the Great Depression. Ann Peacock wrote the screenplay.

American Girls to Star in Movie
The American Girl line of doll characters, launched in 1986 by Mattel, will be getting their own theatrical movie. The production will be handled by a partnership of Walden Media, Goldsmith-Thomas Prods. and Julia Roberts' Red Om Films. Several television movies of the popular dolls have already been made. These include Samantha: An American Girl Holiday, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure, and Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. The latter will air later this year on the Disney Channel. The first theatrical film will be based on the American Girl character Kit Kittredge, who has endured hardship will growing up during the Great Depression.
