Cassel Makes a Promise
Vincent Cassel (Ocean's Twelve; Irreversible) has been added to the cast of director David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises for Focus Features and BBC Films. The actor will play Petrid, whose family owns a brothel in Russia.

Viggo Makes Cronenberg Another Promise
Viggo Mortensen, fresh off his acclaimed turn in David Cronenberg's thriller A History of Violence, is again teaming up with the Canadian director. He has signed on to star in Eastern Promises, and will play a man involved in the Russian mob.

Cronenberg makes Promises
David Cronenberg is set to direct Eastern Promises for Focus Features. Based on a screenplay by Steve Knight, the thriller has a similar setting and backdrop to that of Knight's Dirty Pretty Things. This film will follow a midwife who is investigating the identity of a Russian girl who dies in childbirth on Christmas Eve. The nurse becomes endangered when she finds that the dead woman was a prostitute ensnared by a sex-trafficking gang.
