Vedder goes Wild
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will write the soundtrack to Into the Wild, a film written and to be directed by Sean Penn. The film is based on a non-fiction book by Jon Krakauer and tells the story of a man who abandons all of his possessions and hitchhikes to Alaska, only to be found dead in a bus some time later.

Hurt, Harden are Wild for Penn
William Hurt and Marcia Gay Harden have joined the cast of Into the Wild, which is being directed and written by Sean Penn, who also has a role in the film. Other featured players are Emile Hirsch, who is the central character, Vince Vaughn and Catherine Keener. The story is based on a non-fiction book by Jon Krakauer and tells the story of Christopher McCandless (Hirsch). McCandless graduated from college in 1992, abandoned his possessions, and hitchhiked up to Alaska with the intent of living in nature. He was found dead in an abandoned bus some time later. Hurt and Harden would play his parents.

Penn goes Wild
Sean Penn has signed on to direct Into the Wild for Paramount's specialty division. Emile Hirsch will star in Penn's adaptation of the Jon Krakauer bestseller. Hirsch will play Christopher McCandless, who after his college graduation left behind his possessions and hitchhiked to Alaska to return to nature. He died four months later at a remote campsite.
