Hardwicke set for Nativity
New Line Cinema has hired Catherine Hardwicke to direct Nativity, a feature film version of the Virgin Mary's story. The movie is being fast tracked in an effort to get to movie out in time for the 2006 holiday season. Mike Rich wrote the screenplay, which examines the two-year period of Mary and Joseph's life that has its zenith in their departure from Nazareth as they travel 100 miles to Bethlehem, where Jesus is born.

New Line prepares Nativity
New Line Cinema is set to begin development on a feature film vision of the story of the Virgin Mary. They've purchased the Mike Rich spec script Nativity, which looks at the two year period in Mary and Joseph's life that will end with their traveling 100 miles to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus. Real-life historical figures such as King Herod, the shepherds who saw Christ's birth, and the three kings from the Orient will be fleshed out.
