Elswit wins ASC Award
Robert Elswit won the American Society of Cinematographers feature film award for his work on There Will Be Blood, at their annual ceremony on Saturday night. The ASC's five nominees are also the five Oscar nominees for cinematography. Elswit won out over Roger Deakins' two nominations for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and No Country for Old Men, Janusz Kaminski for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Seamus McGarvey for Atonement.

Sunshine's Dano Goes for Blood
Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine) will star with Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot) in There Will Be Blood, a period piece from writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights; Magnolia). Dano will be a charismatic young preacher who enthralls churchgoers. Lewis will be an oil tycoon. The project is loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!

Anderson, Day-Lewis get Blood
Paul Thomas Anderson is set to direct There Will Be Blood, a period piece that is loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!. The film will be a joint production from Paramount Classics and Miramax, with Scott Rudin as executive producer. Daniel Day-Lewis will star in the film, which is based on a prospector who purchases the oil rights to a family's ranch, and then hits a big vein of crude. Though he has achieved the American dream, he soon finds himself slowly destroyed by it. Anderson wrote the screenplay.
