China vetoes Legend
Will Smith's new thriller, I Am Legend, will not appear in theaters in China. Reports state that the country is temporarily banning American films to boost its domestic film industry, though China denies the report.

City of God Actress is a Legend
Brazilian actress Alice Braga (City of God) will star alongside Will Smith in Warner Bros.' I Am Legend. The story is about three lone survivors of the apocalypse who team up to battle vampire-like creatures in New York City. Francis Lawrence will direct the picture, from Akiva Goldsman and Mark Protosevich's adapted screenplay.

Will Smith will star in I Am Legend, the notoriously long-awaited project from Warner Bros. The studio hopes to begin shooting the action film in early 2007.

Lawrence is Legend
Warner Bros. has hired Francis Lawrence (Constantine) to direct the long-in-the-works project I Am Legend, an adaptation of the Richard Matheson. Mark Protosevich adapted the screenplay. The movie is set in Los Angeles after a biological war and revolves around the sole healthy survivor. This man must battle a group of nocturnal mutants. The story has previously been adapted to movie form two times - the 1964 film The Last Man and the Charlton Heston starrer The Omega Man.
