Brown to Ride the Express
Rob Brown (Finding Forrester) is set to co-star with Dennis Quiad in Univeral Pictures' The Express. He will play Ernie Davis, the first African-American player to win the Heisman Trophy. However he never ended up playing in the NFL because he was strickened with leukemia and died soon thereafter. Quaid will play his coach and surrogate father. Gary Fleder is directing the picture.

Quaid Leads the Express
Dennis Quaid has agreed to star in The Express, Universal Pictures' story of football player Ernie Davis, the first black player to win college football's prestigious Heisman Trophy. He never got to play professionally though, as he died at age 23 of leukemia. Quaid will play Ben Schwartzwalder, football coach at Syracuse. Candidates are currently being finalized to play Davis. Gary Fleder is directing.

Fleder hops on The Express
Gary Fleder will direct The Express for Universal Pictures. The film tells the story of football legend Ernie Davis, who broke records in college football and crossed racial barriers in the early 1960s. He was the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy and was subsequently drafted into the NFL, but his career was ended when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Jeffrey Lieber adapted the script from the Robert Gallagher book Ernie Davis: The Elmira Express.
