Star Trek loses Christmas Day status

Paramount announced it shifted the release date of the next film in the venerable Star Trek franchise from Christmas Day of this year to May 8, 2009, the first prime box office date of the summer season. The change was unrelated to script or cast considerations, and instead is because of complications that arose from the writers strike.

Star Trek returns

Star Trek will be coming back to your local cineplex at some point in the near future, thanks to Paramount and development team Rick Berman and Kerry McCluggage. Berman is best known as the guy who took over the Star Trek franchise when its creator, Gene Roddenberry, passed away. He was an occasional writer for The Next Generation, and created and wrote for Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. The screenplay is already being worked on by Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers).
