Magnolia picks up John Malkovich film
Magnolia Pictures snagged domestic rights to The Great Buck Howard, a film by writer-director Sean McGinley that stars John Malkovich, Colin Hanks, Emily Blunt and Steve Zahn. In it, Malkovich plays the title character, a one-famous mentalist who is pushed back into the limelight. Plans are to put the film in theaters this fall.

Malkovich is Buck Howard
John Malkovich will play the title role in The Great Buck Howard, to be directed by Sean McGinly. The comedy is about an unlucky magician (Malkovich) and his assistant (Colin Hanks) as they struggle to find some magic and kick start his career. Tom Hanks also co-stars as the assistant's father.

Playtone looks for magic
Playtone, the production company owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, will produce The Great Buck Howard and have set Hanks' son Colin to star alongside Kevin Kline. Tom Hanks will also appear onscreen as the father of Colin's character. The movie follows the ups and downs of a magician and his assistant as the pair attempt to inject new life into their careers. Sean McGinly will direct from his own screenplay.
