Swank is a Freedom Writer
Hilary Swank will topline Freedom Writers for Paramount Pictures and director Richard LaGravenese. Based on The Freedom Writer's Diaries: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World Around Them, written by high school teacher Erin Gruwell and her students, the story has Grudwell as a teacher who was assigned to an at-risk class that was believed to be unteachable. By using Anne Frank's diary and Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Sarajevo, Grunwell was able to teach tolerance to the children. Eventually, the class toured both Sarajevo and Amsterdam, and every single student graduated from high school. Most are now enrolled in college.
