Whitaker is a King
Forest Whitaker will star in The Last King of Scotland for Fox Searchlight Films and director Kevin MacDonald. Also cast in the film is James McAvoy. Based on Giles Foden's award-winning novel, the movie is set in the 1970s and blends history and fiction. It tells the story of a Scottish physician who somehow becomes the hand-picked doctor of the new president of Uganda - Idi Amin. Although the doctor is at first flattered by his new position, he is soon horrified by his connection to the savagery of the man. Although Amin was famous for his brutality and despotic nature, he also was fascinated by all things Scottish, wearing kilts and saying he wanted to create an army to fight for Scottish independence. Eventually, he hoped to be king of Scotland.
