DreamWorks gets some Perfume
DreamWorks has acquired the rights to the Tom Tykwer-directed film Perfume, based on the gothic novel by Patrick Suskind. Tykwer co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Birkin and Bernd Eichinger. Ben Whishaw stars in the film as Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a Frenchman who is born with no sense of smell, but is able to develop it into a super-olfactory sense instead. Using that talent, he creates marvelous perfumes, but turns to murder while seeking out the ultimate scent. Alan Rickman will also star in the film as a merchant whose daughter becomes a target for the murderer.
