DreamWorks says yes to Lovely Bones
DreamWorks has acquired distribution rights to Peter Jackson's adaptation of the Alice Sebold book The Lovely Bones. Jackson is directing the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with frequent collaborators Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The book tells the story of a young girl named Susie Salmon, who is murdered and then continues to observe the life of her living family even after her death. She sees their loss and has to balance those feelings against her need for revenge against the man responsible for her death.

Peter Jackson to create The Lovely Bones
Peter Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh have invested their own money to option the rights to the Alice Sebold novel The Lovely Bones. They will write the screenplay with Phillipa Boyens, and Jackson will direct after he completes King Kong. The book centers on a teenage girl who has died, and narrates the events surrounding her death from beyond the grave.
