Lions Gate has a Grizzly Man
Lions Gate Entertainment has created a unit that is specifically designed to produce and distribute documentaries in conjunction with broadcast and cable networks. These documentaries will be distributed on multiple levels, starting with theatrical release before moving on to television.
Their very first project will be Grizzly Man, to be co-produced with the Discovery Channel. Directed by Werner Herzog, the film will center around amateur grizzly bear expert Timothy Treadwell, who traveled occasionally to Alaska to study and live with bears. He was eventually killed by a rogue bear. Production on the film will wrap in October, followed by theatrical release in Spring 2005. It will then hit the Discovery Channel in fall.
