Alan Ball options rights to Towelhead
Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, who won an Academy Award for the screenplay of American Beauty, has optioned the rights to the upcoming novel Towelhead by Alicia Erian. It is the author's debut and will be published in April by Simon and Schuster.
The story is set during the Gulf War and centers around a 13-year-old Arab-American girl who is dealing with her sexual obsession of a bigoted Army reservist. All this takes place under the extremely watchful eye of her Lebanese father.
Ball is writing the screenplay for the film and hopes to make his directorial debut with the project.
