Sony Pictures Classics to distribute Bard's tale
Sony Pictures Classics has picked up distribution rights for the Michael Radford adaptation of William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, featuring Al Pacino as Shylock. The movie will premiere in September at the Venice Film Festival, though it won't be in competition.
Radford both wrote and directed the stylized imagining of the classic 16th century morality tale, which also centers on themes such as revenge, redemption and love. Along with Pacino, Jeremy Irons stars as Antonio, Joseph Fiennes plays Bassanio, Zuleikha Robinson portrays Jessica (Shylock's daughter), and newcomer Lynn Collins is Portia.
