Mann and DiCaprio are Public Enemies
Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Public Enemies, the bestselling novel by Bryan Burrough, who also wrote Barbarians at the Gate. Collateral helmer Michael Mann is set to direct with DiCaprio starring. The film centers around the government's attempt to stop such infamous, Depression-era criminals as John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. In the process, J.Edgar Hoover's FBI went from being a relatively powerless agency to the first federal police force in the country. While the screenplay for the film is being adapted, both Mann and DiCaprio are expected to work on other projects.
