ThinkFilm gets The King
ThinkFilm has acquired North American distribution rights to The King, which stars Gael Garcia Bernal in his first English speaking role and William Hurt. The movie centers on a Young man named Elvis Sandow (Bernal) who has just come out of the Navy. He becomes determined to find the father he never knew (Hurt), and discovers that he is now the pastor of a church in a rich Texas town, has a gorgeous wife (Laura Harring), and is father to two perfect children. Angered, he begins to plan to destroy his father's idyllic existence.
The movie is directed by James Marsh from a screenplay he co-wrote with Milo Addica (Monster's Ball). ThinkFilm is looking to release the film in early 2006.

Hurt replaces Shepard in The King
William Hurt has replaced Sam Shepard in one of the lead roles in ContentFilm's The King, starring Gael Garcia Bernal. Hurt will take on the part of a Baptist pastor whose life with his beautiful wife and adoring children is thrown into chaos when his long-lost son (Bernal) shows up looking for him. Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive) plays his wife, and Pell James and Paul Dano portray Hurt's other children.
Shepard departed the project after it was delayed due to ContentFilm's merger with British production company Winchester Entertainment in March. The movie will be shot for $5 million and is in production in Austin, Texas. It will mark the feature film debut of James Marsh and is co-written and produced by Milo Addica (Monster's Ball).

Harring takes Hannah's role in The King
Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive) has replaced Daryl Hannah in James Marsh's The King. Shooting is already taking place, and Harring stars alongside Gael Garcia Bernal, Sam Shepard and Paul Dano. The movie tells the story of a 21-year-old who has just gotten out of the Navy (Bernal). He attempts to track down the father he never knew (Shepard) and finds that he is the pastor of a flourishing Baptist church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Additionally, Shepard has a beautiful wife (Harring) and two perfect children and really wants nothing to do with his long-lost son. Marsh is directing the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Milo Addica.
