Frank Miller's comic book adaptation gets Christmas Day release date
Lionsgate moved up the release date of writer-director Frank Miller's The Spirit from Jan. 16, 2009 to Christmas Day of this year. The film, based on the comic book series by Will Eisner, will now tentatively go head-to-head with Disney's Bedtime Stories and Fox 2000's "Marley & Me.

Lionsgate has Spirit
Lionsgate has picked up North American distribution rights to the adaptation of Will Eisner's classic comic book The Spirit. Comics writer Frank Miller, who made his directorial debut alongside Robert Rodriguez with Sin City, will write and direct The Spirit. The story follows a man who fakes his death so that he can fight crime in Central City. His arch enemy is the Octopus, a man who kills anyone who is unlucky enough to see his face. The villain also has a plan to destroy the entire city.

Frank Miller to Recreate The Spirit
Acclaimed comic book artist and writer Frank Miller will adapt and direct The Spirit, based on legend Will Eisner's classic comic strip. The Spirit is a masked detective who is thought to be dead. He uses a mausoleum as his base and fights crime in the shadows of Central City. Eisner, who died last year, debuted his comic in 1940 and much of it has been reprinted in hardcover form by DC Comics. Odd Lot Entertainment and Batfilm Prods. are producing. This will be Miller's second foray into directing; he served as co-director with Robert Rodriguez on the film adaptation of his Sin City.

Writer has Spirit
Jeph Loeb has been hired to write the screenplay for The Spirit, an adaptation of the comic book series created by the late Will Eisner. The story follows a masked detective who is believed to be dead. He uses that belief to his advantage as he fights crime in Central City.

Odd Lot developing Spirit
Odd Lot has purchased the rights to the comic book The Spirit, which is planned to be developed as a live-action production. Spirit tells the story of a detective who prevents an attempt to release a substance that would leave the inhabitants of his fictional Central City in suspended animation. After being exposed to the goop himself, he finds that he is able to withstand any form of physical beating, which inspires him to fight crime and femme fatales. The series, which began in the 1940s, inspired the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon.
