Lions Gate starts up Diary of a Mad Black Woman
Filming for The Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which is being produced by Lions Gate, will begin July 21st in Atlanta.
Based on a play by Tyler Perry, the movie centers around a woman who is shocked to discover that her husband wants to divorce her and marry her best friend. Making matters even worse, it's the eve of her 20th wedding anniversary.
Perry will write the screenplay and star in the film as the jilted woman's husband. Other cast members include Cicely Tyson, Steve Harris and Kimberly Elise. Perry will also portray a gun-toting granny named Madea, a character that appears in many of the playwright's works. Darren Grant will make his feature film directorial debut.
