Hanks considering Code
Tom Hanks is in talks with Columbia Pictures to star in their theatrical adaptation of the Dan Brown bestseller The Da Vinci Code. He would play symbologist Robert Langdon in the film, to be directed by Ron Howard for a 2006 release. Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the Academy Award-winning script for Howard's A Beautiful Mind, has been brought onboard to handle the screenplay.
The novel gets started as a murder takes place at the Louvre in Paris. Because Langdon had been scheduled to meet with the victim, he quickly becomes a suspect, but teams up with the man's granddaughter to try to unravel the mystery. Where the trail leads them is a secret society that ultimately has religious implications that could change the very essence of the Catholic Church.
