Ward returns to River Queen

Director Vincent Ward, who dropped out as helmer of River Queen at the insistence of completion guarantors for the film, has now returned to the project as director. He will handle post-production on the film, and has said that he is very pleased with the work D.P. Alun Bollinger did in his absence. The project had been through numerous delays due to bad weather, the illness of star Samantha Morton, a car accident for co-star Cliff Curtis, and reported tension between Ward and Morton.

Ward drops off River Queen

Director Vincent Ward has quit River Queen, a project that has been troubled due to financial difficulties and the illness of its lead actress, Samantha Morton. The producers of the film would not disclose the reasons the director left; speculation amongst the crew has d.p. Alun Bollinger taking over where Ward left off. When Morton became sick in August, the film's shoot had to be delayed to October. Once things started again, the financial strain was difficult and Ward found it difficult to compromise with the film's insurers. Additionally, weather conditions have been unseasonably cold, and co-star Cliff Curtis was in a car crash.

River Queen filming suspended

Filming on the New Zealand film River Queen has been put on hold as actress Samantha Morton is struggling to recover from severe influenza and bacterial infections that resulted. The shooting schedule had already been shuffled around to account for her absence, but all of the remaining scenes require her to be present. No date has been set for restart, which means that Kiefer Sutherland, her co-star, had to return to the U.S. for shooting of new episodes of 24. He'll return later to complete his unshot scenes. All of the delays are covered by insurance.
