Harden goes for Bears
Marcia Gay Harden is in negotiations to join the cast of Richard Linklater's remake of Bad News Bears for Paramount. She is currently in talks to play an attorney who recruits Billy Bob Thornton's character to coach a Little League-esque team of young misfits. The comedy will be released next summer.

Kinnear is Bad News
Greg Kinnear has signed on for a starring role opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the Paramount remake of The Bad News Bears. Richard Linklater is directing from a screenplay by Bad Santa scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The original film was released in 1976 and starred Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal.
The studio has been holding casting tryouts for kids that can play baseball and act in various locations around the country. The film will begin shooting next month.

Linklater gets some Bad News
Paramount has hired Richard Linklater to direct the remake of The Bad News Bears, which is already set to star Billy Bob Thornton. It will be Linklater's second project with Paramount - the first was the $81 million-grossing School of Rock - and is a re-imagining of the 1976 comedy that starred Tatum O'Neal as a pitcher and Walter Matthau as the manager for a team of misfit kids in a super-competitive Little League. The screenplay was written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
