The Forgotten is an ambitious science fiction thriller from Revolution Studios that former Disney chief and current Revolution head Joe Roth has described as "the most promising script since The Sixth Sense". He put his money where his mouth was with regards to this claim by making The Forgotten the most expensive spec purchase by Revolution thus far in their still neophyte existence.

Written by Gerald Di Pego, the scribe behind such notable flicks as Message in a Bottle and Phenomenon, The Forgotten will star Nicole Kidman. In this performance, she will be returning to somewhat familiar ground. As with her 2001 sleeper hit The Others, this movie will concentrate on Kidman's character's quest to unravel the truth about her children. The difference in this outing is that her children have been kidnapped by an unknown entity so she must sleuth to solve the mystery of their abduction and current whereabouts. She will be joined in her quest by another man facing a similar predicament. To the average movie fan, it will play as a de facto sequel to The Others so The Forgotten is a box office certainty. Nicole Kidman has been replaced by Julianne Moore for this thriller, which is somewhat interesting since Moore was recently trumped by Kidman in the race for the 2003 Best Actress Academy Award. Story details have emerged a bit more clearly, as the plot revolves around a single mother named Telly Paretta whose eight-year-old son has recently disappeared after a plane crash. Telly fears that he may be dead, and goes to a psychiatrist to cope with her grief and obtain assistance in coping with the situation. She is told that her son has been a long-time figment of her imagination and that her mind has played tricks on her by making up numerous years of false memories.

Soon, she meets a father (Dominic West) who has had a similar experience with his daughter, and the two work together to determine what may have happened to their children.

The premise does sound intriguing, but given the soap opera-sounding possibility of aliens being involved in the whole ordeal, The Forgotten may have to rely on the marketing force behind Revolution Studios to convince audiences that it's a film worth seeing. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
