A documentary on the life of Cuba's charismatic and controversial leader, Fidel features interview with its subject as well as prominent world figures such as Muhammad Ali, Harry Belafonte and Nelson Mandela, who discuss Castro's place in world politics, his effect on Cuban culture and, to a lesser extent, his personal life. Fidel had its premiere at the Urbanworld Film Festival in 2001, and is now receiving a New York-only release on OCTOBER 18, 2002. One would believe that the distributor, First Run Features, will expand beyond this extremely-limited release should audience and critical reaction be favorable. If you're interested in history and hearing about the lives of world leaders in their own words, this is one you should look for when it gets to your local art house. (Stephanie Star Smith/BOP)
