There is not much information available on this film, but here's what I have been able to gather together. We'll keep you updated as more becomes available.

Writer Neil Tolkin based his script for the movie on the short story of the same title by Ethan Canin. It was published in an anthology called The Palace Thief Stories. The story is about the relationship between a prep-school teacher, played by Academy Award-winner Kevin Kline, and a troubled student, played by Emile Hirsch. The student lives in the shadow of his father and adopts a mentor/student relationship with Kline that spans over 30 years.

This film was picked up out of turnaround by Universal from Fine Line Features. (Marty Doskins/BOP)

The Emperor's Club has been mentioned several times in articles about films believed to be Oscar contenders at this early stage, and Universal has solidified this notion by moving the film to the award-friendly climate of November releases. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
