Position Staff In Brief
11/12 Les Winan Amusing but toothless. I expect better considering the talent involved.
25/169 Max Braden Count this among the more funny of Paul Rudd's comedies. Justin Theroux was great as the commune leader.

The comedy team behind the dynamic Role Models returns to theaters this year with the latest reunion of MTV’s The State. This time, the setting is a hippy commune, but that is less important than the previous sentence. David Wain and Ken Marino have written another movie and if it’s even half as funny as their last one, we are in for a treat.

Paul Rudd reunites with the comedy writing duo and this time, he brings his former Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston with him. They portray a restless New York City couple whose lives are in disarray because none of her depressing documentaries sell while his company is under federal investigation. On their way to visit his brother (played by Marino), they experience car problems and are forced to stay at a bed and breakfast. This magical evening turns into a lifestyle choice as they begin to embrace their inner hippies.

The cast of Wanderlust is exemplary. Aniston’s current boyfriend, Justin Theroux, has proven himself as an accomplished screenwriter in the wake of Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. He returns to his acting roots as the son of the leader of the commune, which was founded by Carvin (Alan Alda). Also onboard are Malin Akerman, Kathryn Hahn and the rest of the staples from The State.

Wanderlust’s early buzz is so negative it could be accurately described as hostile. In addition, distributor Universal Pictures isn’t showing a lot of faith in the project thus far. I fear that this is a situation where they know something we do not but given the hilarious quality of Role Models, BOP is still hoping for the best here. (David Mumpower/BOP)
