From acclaimed noir writer/director Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill, Scarface, Body Double) comes this thriller about a former con-woman trying to straighten out her life while battling the demons of her past. Femme Fatale has already been released in France, and was featured during the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival, where it has received mostly tepid reviews, so it really comes as no surprise that Warner Bros. plans a small release pattern of approximately 800 venues.

The femme fatale of the title is Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, who plays the striking Laure Ash. Laure, a former jewel thief and strong manipulator, has been attempting to recreate herself as a reputable married woman, but she soon finds herself the subject of much attention from a former paparazzo (Antonio Banderas). With a flash of his camera, he again exposes her to her enemies, forcing her to again look for a change in identity.

De Palma filmed Femme Fatale on a budget of approximately $35 million and supported the production by making an appearance when it showed in Toronto. Though it's possible the release pattern plans could change, it doesn't appear that the distributor plans to offer similar support, particularly given the very small number of venues and complete lack of promotion thus far. Add to that the fact that Romijn-Stamos is unproven in her ability to open a film, this film looks like one that will be in and out of theaters quickly. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
