Universal goes to the well bakery one more time, as this summer brings the third entry into the American Pie franchise. But can you blame them? After the $145 million gross of the sequel of a $101 million grossing film, it sure makes sense.

Fortunately, and perhaps smartly, the third film hasn't simply been dubbed American Pie 3. Instead, the titular wedding will be that of Jason Biggs' Jim and Alyson Hannigan's Michelle.

Also returning are all the guys (Eddie Kaye Thomas, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Seann William Scott), except for Chris Klein. And, save Hannigan, none of the female characters from the first two films will be back. This makes sense, considering how pointless they were to the second film.

Eugene Levy will also be back as Jim's Dad. The only major new character will be that of Cadence, Michelle's younger (and hotter) sister, played by January Jones. Tim Allen has also signed on to play Stifler's Dad. Adam Herz, screenwriter of the first two films will also pen the third. Jesse Dylan (How High) will direct.

Other than the obvious wedding, the rest of the film is sure to be filled with other gross-out humor and sticky situations. If there's a wedding, then there's sure to be a bachelor party where something strange can happen.

Scheduled for the first weekend in August, unless it's a disaster of epic proportions, there's absolutely no reason why American Wedding will disappoint at the box office. A box office somewhere between the totals of the first two films is reasonable, with a chance for more depending on the quality. (Tim Briody/BOP)
