Promises is a documentary about seven Israeli and Palestian children who live twenty miles apart in Jerusalem. Ranging in age from nine years old to thirteen, the children speak frankly about their views on the relationship between Jews and Arabs and the conflict that envelopes their lives. The documentary was shown in December of 2001 on PBS. Sometime in the winter of 2001, the film was picked up by a distributor and a release date for a theater in both New York and Los Angeles was set. There is no further word on whether the film will be shown in other cities, and a visit to the Promises official website makes it clear that prints of the film are being made available to schools and organizations for non-theatrical screenings at the present time.
