What does a woman who has a track record of dating losers do for her next relationship? Answer a personal ad from another woman, of course! This film is based on the play Lipschtick by Heather Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt. Coincidentally, they also wrote the screenplay for the movie and portray the two main characters.

Unhappy single woman Jessica Stein (Westfeldt) has a disatrous dating spree and decides to resort to the Personals section of the newspaper to find her next companion. She finds a very intriguing ad, but it is in the Women Seeking Women section. She is most definitely straight, but decides to take a chance and answer the ad. She ends up on a date with an art gallery manager named Helen Cooper (Juergensen). They find that they have a lot in common and decide to continue the relationship which leads to many hilarious moments.

This film has been very well received by audiences, including at the 2001 Los Angeles Film Festival where it won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film and the Special Jury Award for Writing and Acting. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
