Antwone Fisher

Antwone Fisher was a sailor, a security guard, a screenwriter and a criminal. While in the Navy, he is forced to see a psychiatrist who helps him control his impulses and his anger caused by his traumatic childhood. It also leads him to search for the family that abandoned him as a child. His story was published in the autobiography Finding Fish.
The film version of the New York Times best-seller will star unknown Derek Luke as Fisher. Denzel Washington will play Dr. Jerome Davenport, Fisher's psychiatrist. Washington will also go behind the camera for the first time, making his directorial debut.
Fisher has adapted his own story for the screen. This will be his first produced screenplay. He has also sold the script for the stuck-in-Development-Hell Chris Tucker vehicle Double O-Soul.
With Washington still super-hot after his Oscar win, Fox Searchlight will likely be counting on him to draw viewers to this tragic story with a happy ending. A release pattern and box office similar to Washington's The Hurricane is certainly not out of the question. (Tim Briody/BOP)
