The self-loathing is palpable.

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
1/31 John Seal A breathtaking film with a remarkable Sean Penn performance
2/21 Jason Lee A devastatingly powerful film with a story that deserves to be heard
5/52 Sean Collier A good film made great by a perfect performance.
9/31 Les Winan Genuinely interesting even when it drags a bit in the middle. I predict Sean Penn will win an Oscar.
10/43 Kim Hollis It made me want to know more about all of the real-life characters. That's the sign of a good film. James Franco is a revelation.
15/196 Max Braden Penn is excellent but Brolin also does a great job of showing himself being backed into an emotional corner.
17/98 David Mumpower I would have put this movie in my top five for the year if not for the Diego Luna character being such a swishy cliche of neediness. All the other acting in the film is the gold standard.

Digg Button
On November 27, 1978 a man named Dan White walked into San Francisco City Hall and after a heated argument, shot and killed both Mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk.

The story of Milk, considered to be the first openly gay politicial elected to any signifigant political office, and the fallout of his assassination will be told in an upcoming film from director Gus Van Sant, starring Sean Penn in the title role.

Much of the filming was done in the San Francisco area, and the film also stars Josh Brolin as White, Victor Garber as Moscone, James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Diego Luna.

Anything with Penn in it these days does receive some Oscar attention, and that's what Focus Features is hoping for as they line this up for a fall release. (Tim Briody/BOP)
