A movie that feels as though it follows in the footsteps of Napoleon Dynamite, Eagle vs. Shark is written and directed by Taika Waititi, who has previously been nominated for an Academy Award for his short film work. Eagle vs. Shark centers on the romance between two quirky, odd, outcast types. Lily is a withdrawn fast food worker, while Jarrod has a job as a clerk at an electronics store.

One day, Lily finds herself fired from her job at the restaurant. Somehow, she manages to summon enough courage to go to Jarrod's annual costume party. The theme? Come As Your Favorite Animal. When they meet up at the party, romance begins to kindle. Lily agrees to accompany Jarrod on a visit to his hometown. Jarrod'd reason for the journey is to exact some revenge on a longtime nemesis. While there, Lily finds herself stuck amongst Jarrod's strange family members.

If Miramax markets Eagle vs. Shark well, it does have a chance to strike a chord amongst the same set that made the aforementioned Napoleon Dynamite (and Garden State) a hit. It's an engaging looking film that promises some unique opportunities for humor. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
