All you history buffs, foreign-film lovers or hopeless romantics may be interested in this one. This is the true story of a Scottish aristocrat named Grace Elliot, who, during the French Revolution, was the mistress to the Duke of Orleans, King Louis XVI's brother.

Director Eric Rohmer is considered one of the founding fathers of Vague Nouvelle cinema in France. And it sounds like he's added some interesting twists in this historical bio-pic. One of the more unusual things he did is animate all the external scenery and then film the live actors in front of it. It supposedly gives the film a weird 3-D feel.

The film made its US premiere at the New York Film Festival October 5th. We'll see how the US critics feel about this one. It should be only a limited release in the US, with some expansion later. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
