Writer/director Adam Rifkin brings us this feature film, which looks at the seedy side of Los Angeles. He lists films such as The Last Picture Show, Five Easy Pieces and Taxi Driver as gritty, urban character dramas that were really inspiring to him.

The story follows Tommy (Donnie Montemarano), a convict who has been released from jail and is all ready to return to his old ways. He meets up with his old friend Mick (Vinny Argiro), who has other plans. He wants to change his ways, move to Las Vegas, and go straight. The two go to Mick's room at the rundown Golden Eagle Hotel to talk about their futures. Tommy has a run in with a prostitute (Natasha Lyone); her pimp Rodan (Vinnie Jones) looks like he's going to put a stop to the guys' plans.

A few of Rifkin's past writing gigs have done fairly well at the box office, including Small Soldiers ($80+ million worldwide) and Mouse Hunt ($120+ million worldwide). It looks like this one was one he wanted to make for himself. He and his producer Steve Bing funded the film. The reviews of this film have been fairly middle-of-the-road. Nothing seems to grab anyone's attention, either good or bad. If you get a chance, catch this film at your local art house or film festival. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
