Frank is a 55-year-old man who remains haunted by the drowning of one of his sons 25 years in the past. He has a surviving son, but they are distant from one another. Meanwhile, his relationship with his wife rests on the most fragile of branches. He doesn't share any of his deep secrets with her, and she is fairly private with Frank as well. Although he's good friends with some of the locals, Frank gets his greatest joy from his two grandchildren.

Suddenly, Frank finds himself laid off from his job at the shipyards. Forced to deal with his own sense of self-worth and the demons left over from his son's death, Frank begins to search for something that might give his life meaning. He finds it in his hobby, swimming. Frank decides to take that hobby to its furthest limit by pushing himself to attempt the 20 mile swim across the English channel.

On a Clear Day found some decent success at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema - Dramatic category. It will follow up a British release in the fall with a later North American bow in art house theaters. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
