Known as Buongiorno, notte in its native Italy, this film was inspired by the true story of the 1978 kidnapping and murder of Aldo Moro. Moro was the president of Democrazia Cristiana, the most important political party in Italy at that time.

The story centers on a young woman named Chiara. She seems to be living an ordinary existence. She's just moved into an apartment with her boyfriend, keeps to herself, and works a simple office job. However, this life is actually a careful cover for her real activities. She's a member of the extreme Italian terrorist group, The Red Brigade. She's involved in the planning of a kidnapping of a prominent politician. Once he is in their custody, the Brigade intends to "put him on trial" and execute him for his apparent crimes. Naturally, this assignment leads Chiara to feel conflicted as she wonders whether the decisions she and her comrades are making are justified.

Good Morning, Night has been nominated for a variety of awards in Europe, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The subject matter will be difficult for some viewers, but it should draw some attention upon its art house release. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
